She’s an awesome ship, but just a ship nonetheless. There are hints of personality here and there as the story goes on, but you never think of her as an individual character. X is a fellow that you root for almost instinctively, and his ship, Verity, is an almost perfect illustration of believable AI. Though it couldn’t be called a thriller by any stretch of the imagination, the plot keeps you on the edge of your seat. He adores his ship, likes helping fix people’s problems, and is very intelligent with a bit of a mouth on him. X is an affable fellow with great empathy who really only wants to do the right thing. Suddenly, in a sort of ‘thrust to greatness’ move, he finds himself in a time war. He just wants to fly his ship and explore things. Locked in ongoing conflict with the Sensaurians, an organic hive mind that can send messages in thought throughout its own history, and the Progons, a machine race who can communicate backwards in time, Pilot X finally manages to create peace among the three races.īut when Pilot X discovers that a secret dimensional war fought in hidden parts of spacetime threatens the fabric of the universe itself, he faces unseen enemies and a deeper conspiracy, bringing him to the ultimate choice: erase the existence of all three races, including his own people, or to let the universe be destroyed.
